We are having a hard time keeping Granny and Grandpa off the teeter totter that Santa Claus brought. We had to bribe them with kool aid and cookies so the other kids could have a ride.

Goodbye Navy!!!! Hello Utah????

Yes, you read that right. Utah. I'm not too sure how we settled on that state but here we go. This Vanderpool family jumps in head first intead of feet first and it might just knock us out one of these days.
Jonathan is just 22 days away from being a civilian again (thank goodness) and we are planning a move away from trees (darn) and toward warmer weather (goody). Maybe we can go swimming this summer. I havn't put on a bathing suit since we left Arizona over 6 years ago.
Asher is excited to see his DaDa again but will miss his Gama and Pa Pa. We are planing on being in Arizona for Cory's wedding. But sadly, will not make it as we had hoped for Christmas.
So, on a more family related matter, those of you who provided me with correct current addresses and phone numbers for the family phone list, thank you. However, I have proof that at least five families goofed and gave me either incorrect addresses or have moved since early December. Multiple Christmas cards have come back to me as undeliverable. However, we have received more Christmas cards this year than in all the past 5 years combined just from the Vanderpool relatives. I love it. I get pictures of kids I have never met from their parents I have never seen and they are sincerely wishing me a great holiday season. I love it.

Info on Aaron's graduation ceremonies

I know that this is a little late in coming, but Aaron is not an easy man to pull details from. Here is the scoop on Aaron's graduation ceremonies. Please know that we would love to have any one that would like to come be there. We also know that life is crazy for one and all, so please don't feel that we are requiring your attendance. Come to one, both or none of the ceremonies, do what works for you guys.

Thurs Dec. 14th is the university grad. ceremony. It starts at 10AM at the Wells Fargo Arena on ASU campus. They will open the doors for seating at 9AM and the ceremony starts at 10AM. There is free parking in lot 59 and handicapped parking in lot 58 (i thinks this is the NE side of the arena if not follow the signs). The ASU website says it should last 90 minutes. Aaron will be hooded at this ceremony.

Friday Dec. 15th is the college of engineering grad ceremony. It will start at 4:30 PM and I believe that the seating times will be the same, they website didn't say for sure. They are saying 90 minutes for this one too. This will also be at the Wells Fargo Arena and parking is free in lot 59. Aaron will be presented by his advisor here.

AFTER THURS. CEREMONY THERE WILL BE A LUNCH HELD AT MY PARENTS HOME FOR EVERYONE WHO ATTENDED GRADUATION OR ANYONE ELSE THAT WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US. We are guessing that everyone can be to the Anderson home by about 1PM. We will have lunch at the park across from their house. If you have camp chairs please throw them in. You might need a jacket if it is cool. My parents live on Higley just south of Broadway. From the 60 head north on Higley, cross Southern, on the right hand side of the road you will pass an LDS church. Just pass the church you will see a big white sign that says Monarch Homes Heritage _______( something) turn right just after the sign. You will go through some black gates. Turn right as you come through the gates. My folks are the house in the corner as the street curves. Their address is

5229 E. Carmel Ave. Mesa, AZ 85206
Call their house if you have problems 480-838-7520.

If you have any more questions please give me a call 480-840-3081.
Thanks,
Jennifer

James and Karla Vanderpool Family

James and Karla Vanderpool Family
When we got home from Hawaii I was discoursing at great lengths to Amy about what a great time we had that she got tired of hearing about it and told me to just blog some pictures. Put up or shut up basically. It intimated me so badly that I haven't been able to blog in over a month. So please believe me that Dad and I had a wonderful time in paradise and will be forever grateful to our children for making it all possible and will prove it in a year or two when we finally develop the pictures, wait is that what you do with digital pictures? I'm so confused.
We have been seeing a lot of a young lady named Stacy around here lately and think she will be a fine addition to our collection of inlaws. She however is still waiting for us to begin acting normal and I would except it has been so long that I not sure what normal looks like. If you read Alan's last blog the picture doesn't clear up much but at least he blogs. He has promised to teach us how to smoke when he gets here so we can have our new daughters family over for dinner. You see they cater and when they had us over the food was hard to beat. So Alan knock yourself out. By the way did everyone get their Christmas assignments. If not let us know and we will email then again. See, I'm not technically backward.
Love,
MOM

Why are the labels on my pants different?

Well, it has come to the time of year when the graduating class here is getting ready to leave. I have made some good friends, but I must take my rightful place at the top. It's a dog eat dog world out there, and I have one of those invisible shocking fences, so good luck. Anyway, we had our friends over for dinner tonight. I helped them pack their truck for a few hours, and we thought it might be nice for them to be able to sit down and have a home cooked meal with utensils etc. I promised them another delicious barbecue chicken meal. They think it's the best chicken, and they're probably right. I had timed everything (because that's what I do) to be done on time. I lit the charcoal, allowed time to burn down, and then placed the chicken on the grill. I then had what we in the barbecue world affectionately call a "flamey". Needless to say, I asked, "What?" as in what did I do to deserve this? Within a few seconds, Amy came outside to see what was the matter. Apparently, I exclaimed this to the entire neighborhood. She was concerned, probably one of those image things again. Boy have I got a lot to learn. The chicken turned out OK. No, who am I kidding? It was delicious.

I left school a little early today to help my buddy pack. We had a lecture from a guy who mistakenly thought I cared where he went on vacation last year. He also thought I was listening fifteen minutes later when the actual meat and potatoes began. Again, mistaken, for it was only the top of my head he did see. He went off on facial asymmetry, I went off on why they chose the always loveable Mark Linn-Baker to play Balki's cousin Larry Appleton in the late 80s hit Perfect Strangers. Oh the hijinks those two got into. Did you know that this show enjoyed 150 episodes spanning more than seven years? Anyway, two minds diverged in the lecture hall, and that is what made all the difference.

I am looking forward to spending some time with you all in Arizona. I can't wait to see the palm trees with Christmas lights. To close, I would also like to tell you that Amy keeps washing my shirts in hot water, and they are getting smaller. Some of my classic "blood donation" shirts barely reach the top of my pants now. Amy says I need new shirts, but they remind me of what I have eaten, and that feels good.
Later.

Alan's famous brother

I was sitting down eating breakfast this morning when I saw a familiar face come on the TV. It was Dr. Aaron Petersen doing a commercial for Southwest..... Eye Care. It was a kick actually knowing someone on TV. The kids wanted to know when it was uncle Alan's turn to be on TV. They figure Alan is famous because his brother was in a commercial.

Halloween Fun

I thought I would post a couple of pictures from Halloween. I haven't posted in way too long. Eleanor was the only one who stuck with the same costume at all four Halloween events we went to. She is a "ballerina witch" but lost her hat (when it is sitting in the middle of the family room it is quite hard to find)for one night. Mark was so excited to get the Jedi costume from the Whites (Thank you so much for sending that)so he didn't have to be the same ninja as last year. Bradley had a few costumes from Superman to Woody and anything else he could pull out of the dress up box. Luke got to be the standby lamb and also a dinosaur. Luke was in absolute heaven the night of Trick or Treating. He said it so cutely and thought it was fabulous that you could go from door to door and they would give you candy. With his eating obsession this was the best night of his life. Mark and Bradley figured out that if you ran the whole time you got way more candy. Thank goodness we went with friends and one of the dad's was willing to run with the older boys. Eleanor loved her costume and had a great time at all the parties and trick-or-treating. She did get her face painted at the ward party and it broke her out horribly. We will never do face painting again on her. We had a fun time this Halloween but I am glad to be done with it as well. I learned it is much easier to set out a bowl of candy than to constantly answer the door. Everyone was great about only taking a few until late at night and then, thank goodness, someone cleaned us out. I love that method. I would love to see pictures of your kids as well.

Kari Jean,

The best way that I have come up with to put pictures on the blog is to use Picasa. Go to www.picasa.com, and download their free program. It finds all of the pictures on your hard drive and puts them in one place. Then, down at the bottom, it has a nice little button that says "blog it". It automatically puts your picture on the blog. Good luck! I'd love to see a picture of Asher!

I’m back, it has been a long time since I have blogged. Do I have any special news, I guess, any huge news or am I making an announcement, NO! For all those who don’t go around with me day to day, here is the scoop in my life. I still have my two callings in the singles ward and am enjoying it thoroughly. I really like my ward, it goes against the norm, it is a fun, and loving ward. Everyone in the ward is cool with each other and it is very non clique-ish. I am going to school still full time, so far I haven’t dropped any classes and I don’t any time soon, that’s not the effective way to get through school. I am working only three or four days a week so I can keep up with my school schedule. I was going to take a job at the orthodontic lab but life is too crazy. I have quite dating around and have been able to lasso me a fun, smart and beautiful girlfriend. Her name is Stacie and she is 19 and works as a dental assistant. She and I have made a couple a great trips lately. First we went to conference and stayed with Andrew and Shannon, thanks again. We were up there for the weekend and I got to go to my mission reunion, which was soooo cool, to get to see president Acosta and all my old mission companions. We did so much fun stuff like went to conference on Sunday morning and we drove up Provo canyon and went to Thanks Giving Point. We also had a great Sunday dinner at Rick and Jackie’s. We drove up in a cool rental; it was a new Magnum, what a great car. Then last weekend we went to Mexico together. We are part of a volunteer organization that puts on medical/dental clinics. We all fly down they’re in little planes and I got to fly most of the way down there, our pilot was very cool. We flew down to San Carlos and spent all day Friday on the beach and ate at that awesome little restaurant in the picture with an American LDS couple we met at our hotel. They were very nice, they let Stacie and I borrow one of their cars and we hung out with them on Friday. We rented a four-wheeler and had a ball on the beach and the dunes. We went to the little town on the other side of the Baja called Lopez Mateos on Saturday and put on the clinic and had a great experience. We went back and spent a night on the town; ate at a great restaurant and then went to a little club with live music and danced, it was soo fun. We flew home on Sunday morning; it was an amazing trip. Well life is really crazy right now and I just trying to find time to squeeze it all in. That’s life though. So thats me and lets here from everyone else.

A Second Attempt at Pictures

Well, to no avail. I guess you are just gong to have to settle to either come visit to see Asher or tell me how because it is beyond me.
Anyway, Jonthan, I know you read this sometimes at work. I love you and miss you. We are probably going to come visit soon. Just don't know when.
Peter and Lidnsay, congrats on you place. I am just cathing up on the news.
Tabitha, baptised. No way. She isn't 8 yet. congrats girl. I wish we could have been there.
Anyway, We miss you all but Asher and I have a date with the park today.

By all. We love you.
Kari and Asher

Is Washington & Oregon the edge of the earth?

As most of you know, but have evidentially forgotten, Jonathan is in Washington greatly anticipating the completion of his tour of duty. At the present time he is living with a buddy of his, Marlow Olson, and loving every minute of it. Except when he goes to sleep. Why you ask only at this time does he not like living with Marlow? It is because Asher and I (Kari) have moved down to Gold Hill with my parents. We are living in a motor home on the top of the driveway. But all is not bad. We are not in Washington for another gray, gloomy winter and we are down here with the hopes of avoiding a few bills so as to be completely out of debt by the time Janurary 8th rolls around.
And what is Janurary 8th you might ask. That is the date that Jonathan is getting out of the military. He is in countdown mode. A word to the wise for anyone thinking of joining the military, they are not family oriented.
Asher and I are keeping ourselves busy. I have gotten and incredible job that I love at U-Haul in Medford. It is fast pace and there is always something to do. I got to work a little later so I can still have breakfast with Asher and put him to bed at night. But on my off days, Wednesday and Sunday, we get to play in the park and go horseback riding at the fairgrounds. I am also continuing my work on a whole box of journals.
Asher is attending pre pre school in Central Point with a woman who loves to send him home with his latest invention. The other day I got a Halloween book mark. He is having fun playing with cousins and grandma and grandpa Fisher. He also gets a hoot out of teasing great grandpa Fisher (my fathers father who lives here too). On our days off we take a walk out to the house my father is building to help him where we can. Needless to say Asher copies both my dad and Jonathan when he sees them swing a hammer or cut something with a skill saw. He now has a toy skill saw and is constently cutting off somebody's foot or arm. My mom has found a headband with yellow yarn hair and a cowboy hat. Asher likes to shake his pig tails when he puts it on.
He is saying words that we understand like Uh-oh and Da or Gampaw. Those are what we can understand. Everything else we call Ashereese. His own language. At his last check up he was 3 feet tall and over 30 lbs. Yes, Jonathan is his father and he is bound to be tall. I just can't seem to keep him in clothes. He is now growing out of a 5T and size 8 1/2 shoes so we get to go shopping today. Goodwill of course. That is the only way I can afford for him to wear a shirt two or three times before he is into the next size.
I am still waiting on my appeal from the college in Washington and my hearing should be scheduled sometime this month or early next month.
Jonathan is staying busy as well. He seems to be golfing every time I call his cell phone. I am constantly told to "hang on" while he hits his ball. Most the time, just after that I hear a series of "awe come on" and "man, get up there". Then coming back to the phone he acts as though everything is just fine and he is still beating Marlow. Maybe Marlow is just that bad of a golfer.
As this is my first time on the blog I am going to do my best to post a picture. If this message has pictures on it, you know I was successful. If not, someone give me some help. Oh, one last thought. Andrew, Jonathan says he is already on Monster.

Help in Boise

You do realize, don't you Matt, that my dad works at the Department of Education? And that he's in charge of doing teacher investigations? That should get you some help!!! ;-)

How to do poorly on the GMAT

First, so you know, our family is fantastic. Miriam was released as the Gospel Doctrine teacher and was immediately called as the first councilor in the Relief Society Presidency. She is now out of the house about three or four evenings every week working on her calling. Mateo is starting to talk about school more. It used to be like pulling teeth (just a little dental reference for Alan's sake). Now, it is more like trying to use the method of squares (for Spencer)--with a lot of practice, the mysterious eventually makes sense. Miguel is growing up far too fast! He is using more complete sentences--minus a few articles, prepositions... verbs (Mom car. Daddy home. Matthew hit). He is learning that running with the big kids sometimes means getting left behind. He also loves to sing; sometimes he will walk around the house humming and mumbling--still tunelessly, but he sure is happy doing it.

Now, about the GMAT:

1. Make an appointment for a weekend when there does not appear to be anything else happening.

2. Procrastinate preparing.

3. Accept an invitation to return to working the audit for Best Western on the weekends.

4. Schedule a job interview for Friday morning.

5. Get very little sleep on Thursday before going to work the audit.

6. Get to your job interview on Friday morning and check your online calendar so you can realize that the GMAT is on Friday--in 2 hours--not on Saturday like you meant to schedule it.

7. Take the GMAT after being awake for over 24 hours.

I guess I did not do THAT badly. My verbal was in the 94th percentile, but my quantitative was lower than the 40th percentile. Does anyone know someone on the BSU board of regents who we could bribe to letting me into the Masters Program next September?

Happy Birthday Eleanor

Yesterday was Eleanor's 4th birthday. She had a fabulous day starting with Cookie Crisp and doughnuts for breakfast, presents and even a new bike. She loved the entire day. Dad stayed home and took her to lunch and we had a party in the afternoon with 10 little girls. It was a great day. She even got to choose what to have for dinner- cheese crisps made in the oven with salt on top.

Tuesday Toothday

No this is not a picture of Alan choking Bradley. This was last Tuesday and as we all know Tuesday is Toothday and the tooth fairy pays out a little more on Tuesday so Bradley agreed to let Dad pull his first tooth. "It didn't even hurt that much." The tooth fairy came through and left quite a sum of money especially compared to the quarter she used to pay out. I'm not sure she is just sticking to normal inflation rate.

Happy Days

We have had a few very happy days lately. The latest of which was today when Luke turned the official "18 months" old and was finally able to stop terrorizing the adults and go play in the nursery. He loved every minute of it. No seperation anxiety at all for this kid. They give you snacks in there!

A few other days were of course the first days of school. The boys love being back in school and Eleanor just adores preschool. Mom of course is happy to have them back learning and making new friends and having some quiet around the house is kind of nice too.

The picture of Luke with his mouth wide open is something we had to capture. Any time he really wants a bite of something he opens his mouth as wide as he can and stares at you until you give him a bite. He loves to eat more than anything in the world. Most of his day is spent contriving ways to get at food.

We would love to see some pictures and posts from Jonathan and Kari and Andrew and Shannon. You are becoming the lost ones in the great white north.

Love you,
Amy and family

Sorry Alan, we just couldn't wait!

Well, it's official. Chalae got her braces off on Tuesday. She loves it!! She says it's a LOT easier to play the oboe. I can't imagine why?? Anyway, she has a little bit more cosmetic work to do on her teeth, whitening and the like, but she loves her new smile!

Dawn

ps When I told Chalae (while Dr. Peterson was right there) that she could have waited for "Uncle" Alan, Dr. Peterson said, "Do you have a family member in dental school?" To which I replied, "only your son." He was astonished. "Did I know that Amy was your cousin?" "I won't forget it, now!!"

Uncle Cory

Actual occurence this last week.

The kids and I (Amy) were driving quietly along when Mark piped up from the back seat, "Mom, Cory is pretty much my favorite uncle."
Mom: "Oh yeah, Why?"
Mark: "Because he's funny."
Mom: "Why else?"
Mark: "He tickles me."
Mom: "Any other reason?"
Mark: "He invented the claw and he's good at it and the claw is really fun."

Posting

Noone has posted anything lately, so I thought that I would.

My incredible summer has been sent traveling to exotic places, like the mold farm I have growing in my shower, or the jungle that was formerly my back yard. It was quite the expedition just getting through the gate! I went through at least 3 machetes. I have also been to the happiest place on earth, otherwise known as the laundry room. I am a frequent visitor, and even have a season pass. It's renewable automatically. I'm so lucky.

Thank heaven school starts soon!

Thanks so much!

Good news! Peter and I have finally moved into our new house! We are SO happy and excited and just want to say thank you to everyone who helped us. Thans to Dad, Spencer and Cory for helping us get everything in. And to Matt and Mindy for helping us unpack our kitchen and living room. And we can't forget Mom, for helping us find the house in the first place and then helping us unpack! We REALLY appreciate all of your help and just wanted to say so. Also thanks for everyone's enthusiasm. And everyone is welcome to come over anytime! In fact, we'd love to have you over!

Eleanor finally happy

Luke down for the count

Disney World or Disaster World?

We made a sacrifice by choosing to go to Disney World this summer instead of coming home. Tara was so awesome to come out and endure the chaos with us. Our 15 hour drive down there was just fine as long as a movie was playing. As soon as one got over the quarelling began. When we finally arrived at our time share we found out that our reservation was for 2007 instead of 2006. Thanks RCI for your great customer service. We did get that all figured out and were able to settle in. The place was great and had plenty of room for our family, Tara and another family of four that went to Dental school with Alan who is now practicing in Mesa. His name is Chad Caffall if any one is looking for a good dentist. We got tickets for three days at the Disney parks and three days at the Disney water parks. The water parks were a ton of fun and perfect for the hot weather. We liked Blizzard Beach better than Typhoon Lagoon. We decided to go to Magic Kingdom on Monday. This was our first mistake. I guess Monday just happens to be the busiest day of the week. We chose to not wake up early and try to be there right when it opened, mistake number two. We opted to take the ferry over to Magic Kingdom instead of the tram, mistake number three, it only added about an hour to our entrance time. We neglected to load up with water and snacks for the kids, mistake number four. We did not get a map of the park before hand and plan out what we were going to do in what order, you guessed it, mistake number five. By the time we finally got into the park everyone was hot, cranky, thirsty and ready to go back home. Luke started the first of many epic fits that were going to be thrown that day. He then stood up in the stroller and fell flat on his nose and forehead on the asphalt. He came up bloody with a huge bump on his forehead that looked like someone had kissed him with very red lipstick. The only good thing about it was he cried so hard he fell asleep and got a bit of a nap in. We trudged through that day with one fit after another being thrown by all four of the toddlers we had with us. We had a terrible first day but Mark and Bradley ended up having a great day. As we were first driving into the Disney World park area and Bradley saw the huge sign he was so excited he turned to Mark and exclaimed, "Hug me bruthah(brother)!" They then hugged and lauged together. It was hillarious and now we all love to say it. The boys absolutely loved Space Mountain. The first time we rode was awesome. Mark and Bradley screamed and laughed the entire time. At the end of the ride Bradley was getting off and yelling, "That was Awesome!" Some of the workers at the ride loved his enthusiasm so much they got the boys' autograph and then gave us fast passes that could be used on any ride at any time. We then told them to be sure and act like that after every ride. It didn't ever get us any more goods. Towards the end of the day we discovered the trick to making Eleanor happy. We bought her one of those huge round suckers and she hardly made a peep the rest of the time. It was all smiles after that. Our trip only got better after that day. We corrected all of our mistakes and ended up having a great time. We never made it all day and into the night to see the fireworks show. We were all just too exhausted. Alan, Tara and Chad all got to star in a show at MGM where they dump water on you and shoot at you and fire goes off. It was very exciting. Tara got completely soaked and Alan and Chad did a great job acting. It ended up being a great trip. We won't ever take such young kids again or go in the summer again. We hear February is the perfect time to go. No one under 44 inches goes to a theme park from our family again if we can help it.

Aaron and Jennifer's trip #2

We went Venice, Florence, Pisa and Rome while we were in Italy. Italy in one week calls for a lot of walking and hustling. We spent 2 days in Venice, 2 days in Florence, 1/2 a day in Pisa, and 4 days in Rome. I enjoyed Rome because there were not as many art museums and more historical things to see. We went to the colleseum, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, the Spanish steps, the ruins of the Roman Forum , the Vatican, the catacombs, and a few museums while we were in Rome. We also took a Bernini walk arounf Rome. He is a famous sculptor that has dozens and dozens of fountains and statues all over Rome. If you read Dan Brown's Angles and Demons book you know what I am talking about. It makes you realize just how young our country is when you see all the other history in other places in the world. We also learned the meaning of "It's a dry heat". We were outside all week and it was only in the mid to high 90's but the humidity added a new element.

I am not sure why some of these pictures showed up twice sorry.

Aaron and Jennifer's trip

Here are a couple of pictures from our trip. I could only get 3 at a time to upload for some reason, so I will send a few more in another blog. I am not the tech person in our house. These pictures are from Pisa and Venice. We did the tourist thing and rode in a gondola in Venice (on our 13th anniversary). Venice is a really unique place. It is so easy to get turned around because half the streets and alleys are not listed on the map. It was just incredible to see this entire city floating on the water. They have water buses and taxis that take you around the city. You can walk most places, but there are a few outer islands that are only accessible by boat and water bus or boat. It was cool to see all the boats "parked" outside all the buildings and houses. Venice has a lot of cute alley ways, canals, and old courtyards. We lovingly called it a floating Disneyland because it is all geared towards taking the tourists money. It was amazing to see.

More to come....

Yea! Yoakim and Sabine both wrote, what a great week. We loved hearing from both of you, keeps us close to people we love and miss very much. And believe me the trip to Hawaii won't keep us from coming to Europe as soon as we can. Aaron is in Italy right now seeing the sights and presenting the facts at a seminar for Intel. How are your folks Yoakim, we miss and love them too. Tell them to keep writing we love their cards. And congrats on being a Uncle, we would love to meet your girlfriend she looks great! Tara is in Florida with her sister Amy and family this week and having way too much fun. We are all getting ready for our family reunion in Idaho on July 1st. Hope to see Jonathan and Granny while up there, but are still deciding what to do about a car because we are taking our foster kids and Keyiona just had surgery on her right leg and has a long cast. How to make room for all of us and the cast! But won't it be lovely to get them out of the heat into the cool Northwest for awhile. We may never come back, or until Oct. at least when we have our first day that hits less than 150 degrees on the thermometer. No worry I just got the air conditioning fixed in my car and it is tolerable now.

Hey dear Vanderpools!
I found this impressing blog (big family = many members) on the net and just had to join.
Hawaii doesn't sound any wrong and Karla and James are definitely worth it. But now, unfortunately, it will take a longer time for them to get to Sweden.
Me myself just came home from a long trip to Asia and New Zealand. Saw everything from the most beatiful and clean scenery in New Zealand to the most filthy and overcrowded citys in China and Vietnam. We also went to Thailand, Laos and Cambodja.
I became an uncle to mother Charlottes, my oldest sister, baby about five months ago. She's married to a danish man and they live in Denmark. Very close to Sweden...
Now the scandinavian summer is here and it looks like the sun never sets. I'm delivering mail this summer before I'm going back to University this coming fall. I'm planning on finish next year if nothing stops me.
Well, I'm always gonna be updated about you from this blog, and I'll tell you next time I'm coming by Arizona.
Take care, Joakim Aspeheim (exchange student 1997-1998)

Thank you for your kindness to me as the father of this family. We are looking forward to going to Hawaii. Your generosity is overwhelming. Your good wishes today are even more apreicated. It just so happens that I am the most fortunate of men. The blessings of the Lord has been poured through open windows. Thank you again for being that blessing.

Spencer, I can't believe we weren't the first to know the good news! Congratulations to Dad and I for one more grandchild. You guys keep making us famous (in Japan at least). Tara left for parts unknown today somewhere east of here and was way too happy about it. I suggested she come home for the family reunion but she said she would rather stay with Amy and fam. The nerve. We might be getting two more little boys and one has ADH or whatever, Mindy and I didn't even blink when they said that because no one ever had a case as sever as Jonathan. And look how great he turned out, oh wait, he isn't where anyone can look to see how he turned out, might have had a sex change or something for all I know. And about Andrew moving to Utah, our new attitude is that it is just north Phoenix and they can still make it home for Sunday dinner three or four times a year, especially if I visit up there as often as I hope to. I hate it when my kids deliberately move out of hugging range, you would think they didn't need all that attention. Admit it Matthew Kyle, you love Grandma's wet kisses.

well as i sit here i ponder the deep things of life. where do we come from, where are we going, what is the purpose of life, how do they get the ship in the bottle, and where do babies come from. mom and dad say that i need to learn how to use this thing because they can't afford diapers for two. i think they are just cheap. but i guess if i am suppose to be a go0d big brother i need to be able to give advise on such things as this. any way i need get down to business and Bob the Builder is more fun to watch. see you guys later.
love, Taiki (the soon to be big brother)

Mindy Lou

Happy birthday! I was just thinking of some memories I have of you and I growing up. I can think of a lot of times of us being very silly together and really having fun. We spent many a night trying to go to sleep with way to much energy left. We used to have pretend seizures in bed and laugh until we heard the "girls, I'm sending Dad down there." Most of my memories are of you being very happy and laughing a lot. I know you think you were bossy but I really don't remember you bossing me around that much. I always felt like you loved me and wanted to protect me. You were so good to me in high school in band even though I was the tag along little sister. Your friends were just so cool and always had tons of fun. One thing I have always envied of you is your ability to have amazing friendships. You are a great friend and are loved by so many. Thanks for being a great example to me of hard work and righteous living. You may have regretted some of your decisions you made as a teenager but I never knew any of it. I thought you were perfect except the whole Walgreens episode. I am glad we were friends growing up and still are. It is wonderful to have sisters that are great examples and understand who you are and love you anyways. I love you Mindy. I wish I could call you Miriam but I don't know Miriam, I only know my Mindy. I hope you had a great birthday!--Amy

Over the Hedge

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Miriam. Happy birthday to YOU!!!

Singing that song reminds me of a time when Miriam and I were dating in Salt Lake. She came back to Phoenix to visit for the weekend. I called to talk to her, but the phone was answered by Colin. I said "Is Miriam there?" He replied, "Who?" "Miriam." "Who?" "Miriam, you know, your sister?" "Oh, you mean Mindy?" Granted, he was 12, but when you don't even know your sister's name, maybe there is a problem.

Miriam is twenty-five, I think, so for the next six days, I guess I am twenty-four. Yippee! Actually, she is "Over the Hedge" now. That's almost like "over the hill", only younger. It has been a full and wonderful life to date. Like Amy says, I don't know if she will ever see 8 hours of consecutive sleep again. Sometimes, I feel like our life is like that story about the guy who fell out of the airplane. Fortunately, our children are out of the spitting-up, midnight bottle stage. Unfortunately, they are in their terrible twos. Fortunately, they will grow out of that as well. Unfortunately, they will too soon be teenagers. Fortunately... Well, you get the idea.

We have been busy trying to stay out of the heat. Unfortunately, Grandma won't let us put the trampoline in the living room, but we bought a wading pool. If we could just find a way to have the swing-set in the shade all day, we might survive til October. Dad, Mom, and a very helpful Spencer got motivated last week and installed celing fans in the living room, so now it is my favorite room in the whole house. We are also eating a lot of icecream! Miriam and I are more committed to working off the extra calories though. We are going to the gym at least three times a week. We have yet to decide if it is easier to do it at 5:30 am or 9:00 pm, but either way it is paying off. I can almost run up the stairs without getting winded! Wish us luck with not surrendering to laziness!

Thanks everyone for all the great stories. Cory, we are glad you are still seeing Stacie occasionally, and that you are working so hard for your goals. Way to be responsible. Amy, if I didn't have summerschool, and an internship, I am sure that it would take me less than a minute to talk my wife into driving to Misery for a couple of weeks, but alas, I have to pay my dues before I can start making the big money and aford to live the carefree life of a jet-setter like Mom and Dad. We will hope to see you for Christmas!

James and Karla Vanderpool Family

Hello everyone, its me Cory, following the rest of this family. I have to start this so I can get good at it and eventually get Alan back for that not so true story about me and Lake Powell. Well, I have been home now for two months. I know time is flying. Well since I have been home I decided to go into debt and am now driving a kind of new truck. I gets me all the chicks. Speaking of the chickas, I do 4 things in life right now. They are, one Church, I am going to singles ward and just got called as one of four ward fathers. They split the ward into four families and I am the dad of one of them. I also attend the temple each week and that is awsome and then also institute. Next is work, Mom and Dad have got me slaving away on that house which with any luck, we or should I say I will finish next week. Next is School, I am taking an Algebra class this summer and it is really fun, I even took a girl out from my class last night. That brings me to my last and almost the most important thing and that is dating. I am dating a lot, and I mean a lot. I am averging three to four a week and most of the time differnt girls. Although there is one that I have been dating a little more than the rest. Her name is Stacie. She is awsome. The problem with a scedule like this is I am breaking the word of wisdom, I do not get enough sleep. Five hours a night is not getting the job done, especially when this tired body is used to eight. Well, more info than comedy but Ill try harder next time. Cory

Well, I guess that for Amy's sake, I'll go over the lives of the Brimhalls.

Jared is seriously considering going to school. He would really, REALLY like to coach, and get paid for it, and the only way to do that is to teach. He is going to be a wonderful teacher. He already is!

I am still doing the Stake Music. (My poor stake) I also continue to play the piano for the choir, and am now teaching Relief Society once a month as well. I do not even try to make sense of it, I only serve. I was very surprised to have gotten that call, though. Other than that, life is going on as usual. Clothes not being folded, dishes not getting done, that whole thing. (sorry about the "dirty language". I told you I was going to have to watch it. )

Chalae gets her braces off in 12 weeks. I can't believe how fast it went. She's beautiful and talented, and a very wonderful part of our family. She just got back from girls camp and loved every minute of it.

JJ is hilarious, and loves to laugh. He usually can be found running around or telling jokes.

And lastly, Joseph is turning 2 next month. Where does the time go?

Well, long post, so I'll write more some other time.

Que Paso?

So this blorg thing is pretty cool if you can keep up with it. Lindsay and I have been pretty busy. We recently returned from Hawaii and loved every second of it. I will post some pictures sometime later and describe a few of the excellent activities we did (We do not apologize for any jealousy we cause anyone to feel). Anyway, I started a new position at a small CPA firm in Chandler as a Bookeeper and am struggling, but enjoying the position as I learn my way. Lindsay is still doing great at Desert Schools Credit Union and is super excited about doing foster care. We hope to start that around the beginning of August. And like Lindsay already posted here on the Blorg, we have a contract to buy a 2/2 townhome in Mesa. It is between Gilbert and Lindsay off of University. To say we are excited is to say that Taiki is only a little cute. ;-)

Just to let everyone else know, the reservations have been set for Hawaii. Mom and Dad will be leaving September 14, and returning the 21st! We had a book about Hawaii and Mom is reading it and getting herself psyched up for the trip.

Now for a few pictures:

Mindy communicated to Spencer telepathically that she wanted to join her children in the pool. We were happy to ablige.

Our new home:

Ok that is all I have for now.

Peter

Hi

Hello! While I'm bored at work I just thought that everyone would like to know that Peter and I are purchasing our first home! We are extremely excited and can't wait for everyone to come see it! But not all at the same time, it's not that big! :)

Rules for posting

I was just reading through some of the older posts, and I found one that mentioned rules.

So, if I were to write any dirty language on the blog, for instance, talking about dirt, mud, floors that need mopped, dog hair on the carpet, any of that kind of talk would get me kicked off? I'd better watch it, then.

Dawn

summer school

well things are going well at the Vanderpool house. the spencer and rieko vanderpool house that is. i am now in summer school taking a class called intro to deformable solids. it is great stuff. rieko just got back from a short trip to Salt Lake to see one of her old missionary compaions wedding reception, she had a great time. i quit my job last week and just got the permit for our house and am slowly working on that. that is going to take a while but it will be nice to go from a 450 square foot room to a 1550 square foot house. Taiki got a haircut last night and has never looked more like a little japanese boy in his life. he is really cute. he understands japanese better than english so if you want to talk to him you have to learn japanese. well that's all for now. see ya later.

I feel so special!!!!!

Life, the Universe, and Everything

Thanks to Jared and Spencer's able instruction, I still haven't caught a fish. Wrong bait, wrong cast, wrong day, I don't know, but I will keep trying. I quit the hotel...again. I feel like an addict who needs a fix, then realizes how harmful it is, sobers up, then needs a fix again. Terrible! Amy and Carri, thanks for the great posts. Having the Blog is fantastically valuable. I am trying to get my family in Idaho to use it too. Dawn Brimhall's email address is. Could you please send her an invitation as well? I will be sure to harass Tara today about not checking her email.

The Nielsens spent commemorated the sacrifice of our nation's heroes on Memorial Day by having a barbeque/swimming party with several illegal aliens. Actually, I think only one of them was actually illegal. It was a lot of fun though, and we enjoyed the barrilla. The internship has begun, but I did not do any real accounting until day three. We will see what the new week holds tomorrow.

Amy
Well I am not sure but I think that if you go to the DES and apply for any kind of aid that they will qualify you for child care or not. I have heard rumors that the DES in Missouri works at super sonic speeds so you will probably not need this next advice. One thing I have seen done before is to find a willing soul in the ward probably in the A or B group, bring them lots of lasanga and brownies and then suggest that they babysit for the desperate families. Here is where they have to like Mormon food. Suggest that they get paid, not in cash dollars(money is way overrated) but with vouchers to the Bishops storehouse. They would recieve say $100 per week in food. This works even better if the family who does the babysitting is already recieving help from the ward with thier mortgage, utilities, internet bill, cable bill, new car payment or funds to start a new business. I'am sorry the last four things should be deleted. People who recieve welfare money for these items probably won't babysit anyways. Ok the person doing the babysitting doesn't need to be recieving any monies from the ward but they will probably end up being a saint. Good Luck. Just for fun a couple of pictures of what we did today.

OOPS!

Yesterday was our first day of summer vacation. The Missouri Botanical Gardens happened to be free that day so we decided to go. We had a great time. It was beautiful. They have an incredible glass exhibit right now and the weather was even not horrible. They just finished a huge new children's garden complete with rock climbing, tree houses, rope climbs, water, sand, a play and pretend vegetable store and of course plants. We played for a few hours and then it was time to go home. On the way out we were all hot and tired when we saw this incredible fountain. There were a few kids with their feet dangling in so we told the kids they could get their feet wet too. It wasn't thirty seconds before Bradley was full on swimming through the water and then everyone else was following suit. We kept wondering if it was ok or if someone was going to come out and yell at us. We didn't see any signs until after about 10 minutes we looked to the side and saw a little sign that said "no wading in the fountain". OOPS! We quickly got the kids out and had to take a picture of our soaking wet children (and half of my pants) by the sign. You have to walk through a building to get out of the garden and Mark was scared to death to do so because they were going to see how wet we were. The fountain felt great, too bad we can't do it again.
Does anyone know of a government agency that provides free or low cost childcare. We have two families in our ward for a total of six children that need immediate childcare for the summer and have almost nothing to pay for it. If we don't find something I'm afraid me and the other RS counselor are going to end up with a lot of extra kids this summer. Yikes! Is this what I said yes to when I agreed to serve?
Jennifer, I wish we could come home this summer. It feels like it is time to. We are definitely coming home in December for Christmas again. If someone decides to get married between now and then we could come home for the wedding. Cory get busy. We really miss everyone. I can't believe Andrew and Shannon are really going to move away. Everyone is supposed to stay there until we get back and even then you aren't supposed to leave. Or you can move to Utah until December of '07 and then you have to move back. Not fair.
That's all for now.--Amy

So long, and thanks for all the fish

Whoever has editing powers on this blog needs to send an invitation to Tara so that she can have her own login name. Her email address is . She really really really wants to blog. She feels left out, disconnected from the family, unloved. Having her own blog will allow us to continue to exclude and ignore her without having to listen to all the whining.

Life is good except that summer school starts on Tuesday, and I am not ready to start being responsible again. It was a bliss filled two weeks of fishing, building things, and spending time with my family. Miriam will miss me as I start my internship on Wednesday, so I will never be home again. I complain a lot, but I realized that it was rare that Tara ever goes to bed before me, and almost always wakes up before me, and she doesn't even have a wife or kids. Wow, she is busy! Anyway, give her a blog name, please!

April and May Happenings at the Petersens

Carri inspired me to post today. I tried to post the other day but the electricity went out in the middle and I never got back to it. We have had a busy month as I am sure all of you have as well. It started with Alan going out of town to Vegas for a convention. Almost the minute he walked out the door I started a project. I decided to dig up the existing weed garden and plant a vegetable garden. It was a ton of work and I loved every second of it. It just feels so right to be outside digging it the dirt. Alan did not want me to plant a garden due to the many and various animals that would love some new plants to munch on. After about 15 hours of digging, pulling, shoveling, rototilling, fertilizing and watering I was ready to plant. I had quite a time using the borrowed rototiller by myself. I only got two major bruises and almost lost a toe. I planted tomatoes, carrots, peas, beans, cucumbers, zuchinies, pumpkins, watermelons and sunflowers. I used my recycled shredded paper for mulch between the rows. I have lots of rabbit and deer deterents out but I already have deer tracks through the garden. I bought the stuff for a fence but convincing Alan to help me put it up has not quite happened yet.
Luke had his first haircut and I ended up cutting off most of his curl. It does not seem to be coming back. I hate doing losing their curls but they have to grow up I guess. Mark had a performance at school called "Planetary Jammin'". He was very intensely singing and was the police man to all the kids around him to be quiet, look straight ahead, it is your turn now, pay attention and so on. He did a great job and I could hear his singing above the all the other kids. Mark and Bradley finished a great soccer season this month. We thought that Alan got a pretty lucky shot with the soccer picture. Mark did not have much of a clue when the season started how to play but he got pretty good by the end. He loves being goalie and did a great job at it when his team supported him. The other teams got some shots in when he was the only one around to defend the goal. Bradley had a lot of fun in soccer. Not so much on the field but eating the snacks after the games. He likes to run at the back of the pack looking ready all the time. When he did get in the action he usually had good results. Bradley also had a birthday on May 15th. We did a GI Joe camouflage birthday. We had to find tiny plastic soldiers hidden in the grass, do an army training obstacle course, target practice with water bombs, unwrap the bomb(present wrapped 15 times) and tank, tank, grenade (duck, duck, goose). Everyone had a great time. Alan and I had fun decorating the cake together. I love that he helps me with things like that. I didn't include pictures of Mark's first piano recital which he did very well at. He was so excited all week to have his tow and a half minutes of fame. The boys have had lots of end of the year activities including field trips, performances and pride days. We are excited for summer and the relaxed fun that it brings. Hope all of you are well. Anyone that wants to visit the St. Louis area we welcome all!! Love you all Alan and Amy

HI EVERYONE!!
This is a very exciting moment for me. I think I just joined the 21st century. That is if I don't clog the blog and completely screw this up. Well on May 16th about 16 hours after Mr. Bradly boy turned 6 years old Emily Iva did too. She was the most excited and had more fun than anyone else I think. I am going to try to put on some pictures so hopefully you will see some of the kids trying to eat pie without hands(notice Tabbys new haircut). And the K9 version of applebobbing. Joes knee is getting stronger or at least healing a little more each day. He now can walk without crutches, or the cane his lovely friend bought him. He is even back to doing projects around the house. I decided to add a couple of more pictures. Yes that is my sweet girls, Emily at Center and Katies at Quarterback, in thier NFL flag football league. By the end of the season I think they liked playing football. Suzanna is in her end of the year orchestra concert. She loves the violin and wants to be a "professional violin player". I hope she can last into Junior High. We hope all is well with everyone. We love you all, take care of each other. Carri
